Having used them now for a number of months maybe a year I can’t say that performance is startling, and we definitely know of instances where people we know have bought stuff through us and we’ve not been credited. Also having dealt directly with them they like to affiliate for other people but won’t help you if you want to sell their services on with a commission, which means they don’t affiliate!

We’re only with them because one of the major players in the area we trade in sells affiliates through them and it’s the only way we can generate income from these licensed products.

Come the glorious day though!

Commission Junction seems to be the market leader in affiliate programmes these days, at least in terms of how many of the big boys they have on board.

However, we are totally sick of CJ and don’t believe they pay all the commissions they should. For example, we know of cases where friends and family have bought using our links but we have never been credited for it.

I was discussing this with one of my pals and he said that his best selling merchant had changed over to CJ recently and that his income had fallen drastically as a result. More than a coincidence we think.

The trouble is that several of the big names I want to promote are also on CJ. I’m missing out on a few large and financially lucrative markets because I won’t promote anything via CJ any more. (Part of me wonders if getting 40% of something is better than 100% of nothing, but on principle I don’t want to do business with people I distrust.)

Anyone else in the same boat?

Drastic Drop in Earnings when Merchant went to CJ

My speciality web site has been running for 2 to 3 years now. During all this time, despite floundering in the Google sandbox, one merchant has consistently returned better results than the others. This is not surprising since it is the product I most recommend on my site.

Some months back, this merchant moved from their in-house affiliate scheme to CJ. Around the same time, my site finally came out of the Google sandbox and shot from not being in the first 1,000 results to now ranking position 5 for my keywords. Despite the resultant large hike in traffic to my site, my earnings for this merchant have dropped to a third of their previous level.

It seems we’re totally at the mercy of CJ, so I guess there’s little we can do about it. I did e-mail CJ but, of course, have not received a reply or acknowledgement.

I’ll be contacting the merchant to tell them of my experience and urge them to return to their previous scheme. I won’t be holding my breath though.
